Leopold Street to Harvard, MIT & Yale

Hassan Akram grew up on Leopold Street in Derby — one of the most deprived streets in one of England’s most deprived cities. Single-parent household. State comprehensive school. No connections, no network, no inherited advantage.

He achieved A*A*A at A-level and read History at University College London, ranked in the top 10 globally (QS World Rankings). From there, he entered tier-1 recruitment, sitting inside selection teams at leading corporate law firms, banks, and investment funds — learning exactly how decisions were made at the table.

Hassan has worked directly with individuals from Harvard, MIT, and Oxford, and with professionals at Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Kirkland & Ellis. His advisory work operates at the level of the global top 0.1% — the families, candidates, and institutions where the margin between success and failure is measured in precision, not effort.

That perspective from both sides — understanding what recruiters actually look for, and knowing how to engineer a candidacy to meet those criteria — became the foundation of the ECS Offer-Engineering System™.

Today, international families from over 15 countries across 5 continents — from London to Singapore, Zurich to Hong Kong, New York to the Gulf — engage Hassan on multi-year retainers to engineer their children’s entry into the most competitive career paths in law and finance.

Derby 016A — Ranked 74th out of 33,755 neighbourhoods in England

Leopold Street sits in Derby 016A — ranked 74th out of 33,755 neighbourhoods in England. Fewer than 1% of areas in the country are more deprived.

This is where Hassan grew up. No connections, no network, no inherited advantage — just a state comprehensive school in a single-parent household in one of the most deprived wards in England.

The journey from here to delivering sessions at Harvard, MIT, and Yale, and engineering offers at the world’s most competitive firms, is the reason the ECS system exists. It was built by someone who had to figure out how the system actually works — because nobody was going to hand it to him.

The Families We Work With

We work with a limited number of international families each year on multi-year retainers, typically on a referral basis. Engagements span 12–48 months — from first assessment through to final offer.

Education
Families from top Swiss boarding schools, Charterhouse, Harrow, Raffles Institution (Singapore), The Doon School (India), and leading UK independents
Global Reach
International families from 15+ countries across 5 continents — including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, China, United States, and the Gulf states. Engagements span London, New York, Hong Kong, and the Middle East
Multi-Year Commitment
Typical engagements span 12–48 months — from A-levels through to final offer. Bespoke annual retainer. Direct access to the practice. No junior associates. No delegation. Every engagement is managed personally by Hassan
Access
By referral from professional advisers, private bankers, or existing clients. Parent or guardian meeting is a compulsory part of the admission process. Places are limited to 30 families per year globally
Who This Is Not For

We work with candidates who have very strong academic profiles — tier-1 careers are genuinely challenging. We do not work with families looking for shortcuts, guaranteed outcomes, or a quick fix. We do accept bespoke mandates, so apply in all cases.

We do not accept engagements without a parent or guardian meeting. And we do not take on more than 30 families per year globally.

If you’re looking for generic CV advice or a one-session review, this is not the right service. If you’re committed to a systematic, multi-year process with documented outcomes — we should talk.

The Engagement Model

Every engagement begins with a conversation — not a sales pitch. Here’s what the process looks like.

1
Parent Conversation
A compulsory meeting with a parent or guardian. We assess fit, discuss your child’s academic profile, career aspirations, and timeline. This is where we determine whether ECS is the right path.
2
Candidate Diagnostic
A structured assessment of where your child currently stands: CV quality, motivation clarity, interview readiness, and commercial reasoning. We identify the specific conversion blockers — the reasons applications are stalling or failing.
3
System Build
Using the ECS Offer-Engineering System™, we rebuild every asset from scratch: CV (VTMR™), career motivation (PEAL-3™), firm motivation (PEAL-X™), interview answers (STAR-3™), career narrative (BDC™), and commercial reasoning (Commercial Fluency™). Every application receives 300+ edits across multiple redrafts.
4
Conversion & Offer
Mock interviews, assessment centre preparation, partner-round drilling, and live application support through to written offer. Typical engagements span 12–48 months. Every engagement is managed personally by Hassan — no junior associates, no delegation.
“Probably the best investment we’ve ever made. Absolutely exceptional.”
— Mother of a flagship client (White & Case, £175K NQ)

The ECS Offer-Engineering System™

Six trademarked frameworks built from thousands of hours sitting on both sides of the recruitment table — inside selection teams and engineering offers for candidates.

Hassan Akram teaching the PEAL-3 framework at a whiteboard

Built from Both Sides of the Table

Every framework was developed by sitting inside selection teams at leading firms — and then reverse-engineering the criteria into a repeatable system that candidates can apply.

The result: six proprietary tools that transform generic applications into offers — systematically.

VTMR™
Verb – Task – Metric – Result
CV and application optimisation. Transforms generic bullet points into recruiter-ready evidence that passes initial screening.
PEAL-3™
Motivation Framework
Structured career motivation narratives. Converts “why this career?” from vague enthusiasm into compelling, evidence-led answers.
PEAL-X™
Firm-Specific Application
Firm-level differentiation. Engineers each application to demonstrate genuine understanding of a firm’s strategy and culture.
STAR-3™
Interview Architecture
Competency and behavioural interview preparation. Replaces rambling answers with structured, high-impact responses.
BDC™
Began – Developed – Confirmed
Career narrative and story arc framework. Builds a coherent trajectory that makes selectors see inevitability, not luck.
Commercial Fluency™
Board-Level Reasoning
Moves candidates from “commercial awareness trivia” to genuine analytical reasoning about deals, markets, and strategy.

Questions We’re Asked Most

How is this different from a university careers service?
University careers services serve thousands of students with general advice. ECS works with a maximum of 30 families per year using a proprietary system built from sitting inside selection teams at leading firms. The system has produced 56 documented outcomes across 40+ firms. Most university services have not placed a single student at the firms we specialise in.
What if my child doesn’t get an offer?
Our flagship clients achieve a 100% training contract offer rate. However, outcomes depend on academic profile, commitment, and market conditions. We are transparent about minimum thresholds during the initial assessment and will not take on a candidate we don’t believe we can help.
What’s the time commitment expected from my child?
Typical engagements involve fortnightly sessions with Hassan, plus independent work on applications, mock interviews, and commercial reading between sessions. The heaviest periods are during application windows and pre-interview sprints.
Can my child switch between law and banking during the programme?
Yes. The ECS system covers Magic Circle/US corporate law, front-office investment banking, and buy-side investing. Several clients have pivoted between tracks during their engagement. The frameworks adapt to the target.
How involved are parents in the process?
Parents are involved at the outset — a parent or guardian meeting is compulsory. After that, day-to-day work is between Hassan and the candidate. Parents receive progress updates at key milestones and are welcome to request check-ins.
What academic minimum do you require?
Our clients typically have very strong academic profiles. Tier-1 careers are genuinely challenging, and the reality is that academic credentials matter at the screening stage. However, we accept bespoke mandates on a case-by-case basis — if you believe your child has the potential, apply in all cases. We will always be honest about whether a candidate’s profile is competitive and what it will take to get there.
How do I get started?
Email hassan@accessecs.com or reach out via LinkedIn. If you’ve been referred by a professional adviser or private banker, please mention their name. The first step is always a parent conversation.
